Police Arrest Suspected Child Traffickers In Benue

The Benue State Police Command, following information about a syndicate of Child Traffickers operating around the Internally Displaced Person camp at Northbank and other parts of Makurdi, surveillance was intensified in these areas and the following persons were arrested in connection with the offense; Member Friday, the Kingpins wife and accomplice, Stephen Terungwa, Sughter Akegh, and Atom Gideon. The kingpin one Friday escaped to an unknown destination.

According to a press release on Wednesday, 26th July 2023 signed by the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, said that during the interview session, suspects confessed to having recruited a pregnant girl who gave birth and handed over to one Friday, the kingpin who has been on the run. They were paid one hundred and fifty thousand Naira for each pregnancy that was delivered.

The statement read, “One child that was earlier reported missing by his parents at Daudu Police Division was also rescued from the house of the said kingpin.

“Members of the public are advised to ensure that their children are in safe places at all times especially now that they are on holiday.
