Premium Motor Spirit To Autogas; NNPC Will Provide Free Conversion Services – Mele Kyari

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari says the corporation will provide free conversion services to enable automobiles switch from premium motor spirit (PMS) to autogas.

Kyari was speaking to journalists at the inauguration of the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) on Tuesday in Abuja, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“There is also our primary role to provide the conversion kits for our vehicles until private sector can come in. We see this just as a service to Nigerians and as a business to the corporation,” he said.

“You bring your car to a location and then we fit in the things you need to call the gas and also to receive the gas into your car.

“All the 1 million cars that we promised will be done through a structure that the ministry of petroleum resources will put in place to ensure that any Nigerian who has to convert his car will get it done for free.”

The GMD explained that the service will be available in NNPC retail stations nationwide, especially in states with existing autogas service stations including Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa.

Speaking on government‘s efforts to create jobs and expand its natural gas footprint, Kyari said the FG has “ongoing gas infrastructure projects including the OB3 gas pipeline connecting east and west, the ELPS II which is expected to boost supply to the western corridor and the AKK gas pipeline that will supply gas to Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT), Kaduna and Kano states.”
