According to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), there are now 107.34 million people registered for National Identity Numbers nationwide.
The Commission’s Director General, Odusote Odusote, revealed this information to reporters at an interactive session on Friday in Abuja. She claimed that the number has gone up from the 104 million that had been reported in December 2023 by 3.2 million.
She emphasised that in addition to the increase in enrolment, the commission has also tightened its regulations against con artists and extortionists, enhanced staff capacity, sanitised its systems, and enhanced its procedures.
With the ongoing increase in the enrollment centers and 3,656 staff Odusote said she is targeting 200m enrollees from 107m on completion of the upgrade of the system and equip ping of all NIMC centres soon.
