Prof Dike Zainab Abiola Docked For Assaulting Police Orderly

Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola has been remanded in Suleja Prison following an alleged assault on Inspector Teju Moses, a police orderly attached to her, by a Magistrate’s Court in Wuse, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The professor and Rebecca Enechido, her domestic helper, were both arraigned on Friday.

The Police accused Prof Zainab, a legal practitioner and human rights activist, of attempting to commit culpable homicide and an intentional insult to cause a breach of trust.

Magistrate Jones-Wonniat on Friday, denied the Professor bail while the matter was adjourned to October 5, 2022.

The magistrate also ordered that she should be remanded in Suleja Prison.

Speaking to journalists after the case was adjourned, the Police Prosecutor, Bar. Stanley Nwafoaku said the Prof Abiola and was arraigned on the First Information Report (FIR) for the offenses of criminal conspiracy, causing criminal, hurt without provocation; an attempt to commit culpable homicide & intentional insult to cause a breach of trust.

Bar Nwafoaku they were charged under the substantive law which gave the court Jurisdiction to entertain the case.

When asked about the refusal of his client to get a bail, the Lawyer to the defendant Bar Hassan Yusuf said, it is not all the time a defendant come to court to get what they want and this is just one of that case.

He said that his expectation on the case is that Justice will be served.
