The Integrity Youth Alliance has said it is laughable that the so-called “South-South chapter of the Coalition of Northern Groups” could threaten to stage protests if the Federal Government goes ahead with plans to withdraw fuel subsidy in 2022.
According to a press release on Tuesday, 28th December, 2021 signed by the Alliance Publicity Secretary, Danjuma Lamido, he said the Coalition of Northern Groups should know that the Petroleum Industry Act has eliminated Fuel Subsidy and it will be a constitutional breach for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to subsidise Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS).
“The Coalition of Northern Groups is coming out too late to threaten the Federal Government. They should have gone to the National Assembly during the debate on the Petroleum Industry Bill before it became Act after the signing into Law in August 2021 by President Buhari, the statement said.
The statement reads, “We wish to remind the Coalition of Northern Groups that protest is allowed but protesting against the constitution can lead them to the Correctional Centers.
“The Federal Government no doubt is making the right efforts to cushion the usual attendant harsh effects of the pump price increase and with the various private Refineries springing up across the country, the pump price of fuel will surely come down due to competition, ” the statement concluded.
It will be recalled that the South-South chapter of the Coalition of Northern Groups on Tuesday threatened to stage protests if the Federal Government goes ahead with plans to withdraw fuel subsidy in 2022.
