The Integrity Youth Alliance has intensified consultations ahead of its Friday, 28th January, 2022 one day rally in support of the proposed removal of petroleum products subsidy.
Its Board Chairman, Adewole Kehinde in a press release on Monday, 24th January 2022 said that the Alliance will be meeting with heads of the 32 affiliates to finalize on how to make the support rally successful.
He also said that the rally is aimed at sensitizing Nigerians with what the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) said on deregulation as the decision on the new price regime belonged to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited.
He said: “The meeting today is to sensitize the youth leaders on how to mobilize the youths and other Nigerians.
“Notification Letter has been sent to the FCT Police Command for the timely rally
The Group further faulted the proposed NLC rallies, saying that the deregulation of Premium Motor Spirit also known as Petrol is now a constitutional issue that can’t be stopped by rallies.
“The good news is that the Federal Government has commenced rehabilitation of the existing refineries including establishing new modular refineries and Port Harcourt Refinery should start working by April, 2022 as announced by the MD of Port Harcourt Refinery when the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Sector paid oversight function to the rehabilitation of the Refinery.
The statement further said with effective production of Dangote Refinery by September 2022, it will throw the price of Petroleum to market forces thereby reducing the pump price of petrol.
