The Police Remain A Strong And Essential National Institution – Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has saluted the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, and the entire members of the Police at the 2022 Strategic Security Conference held in Owerri today, 31st October 2022, themed “The Imperative of a Nigeria Police Strategy Plan for Peaceful Elections”.

According to a tweet on its verified Twitter handle, Obi said, “The NPF remains a formidable and indispensable national institution. Over the years, the NPF has strived to operate optimally, despite the obvious constraints in staffing, professional training, equipment, and low moral support.

“Nigerians look forward to the day when the NPF will be fully operational in fulfilling its statutory mandate and contribution towards the government’s primary responsibility to protect Nigerian citizens, and its personnel will enjoy the high moral support and pride of place that they deserve. Meanwhile, I salute the men and women of the NPF.

The retreat will assemble Senior Police Officers of the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIG), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIG), Commissioners of Police (CP), and other Heads of Police Formations and carefully selected security and election management experts across the globe to engage in peer-review and cross-fertilization of ideas on effective management of security before, during, and after the General Election in 2023.

The retreat will also provide ample opportunity for Senior Officers of the Force to interact with key officials from sister security agencies, the nation’s electoral body, and international development partners to coordinate security towards free, fair, and credible General Elections in Nigeria.
