The FCT has been experiencing a wave of kidnappings. It appears to be purely mercenary; the goal is to extract the maximum ransom possible. Kidnapping victims now include the entire social spectrum, rather than being confined to those with some money or property.

Troubled about the terrifying crime rate in Nigeria, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, appointed a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed, as the head/commander of the Intelligence Response Team under the Department of Force Intelligence Tactical Teams (DFI-IRT).

DCP Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed, an astute and disciplined police officer, hails from the Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate at St. Mary’s LSMB School, Lokoja, in 1982.

He had his post-primary education at the prestigious Crowther Memorial College (CMC), Lokoja. He proceeded to Bayero University, Kano, for further studies after sailing through the Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) with flying colours, from where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

His quest for knowledge led him to enrol for a diploma in computer application at the Federal Polytechnic Idah in 2005. Now satisfied with this, the enigmatic DCP Mohammed Sanusi Ahmed proceeded to the National Open Universities of Nigeria for his Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Later, he earned his PhD in management at Kogi State University, Anyigba, with a sterling performance.

DCP Ahmed’s career in the police started when he was enlisted in the Nigeria Police Academy, after which he served as Unit Commander Mopol 37 Lokoja and, thereafter, Acting Commanding Officer Mopol 37 Lokoja.

DCP Ahmed’s career progression got a boost when he was appointed as ADC to a former governor of Kogi State. It was in this position that he was posted to Sokoto as Unit Commander Mopol 7 Sokoto.

Energetic Muhammed Sanusi was later transferred to Ekiti State, where he was DCO of the Aramoko Ekiti Police Command. Thereafter, he was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the Ijero Ekiti State Police Command. He was also redeployed to the Operations Zone 8 Police Command and the Inland Waterways Police Command.

Shortly, followed by his diligence and resilience, DCP Ahmed was made Officer in Charge of FSARS Ikeja, Lagos. He was AC IGP, Tactical Squad Abuja, AC Police Special Fraud Unit Lagos, and AC Police Special Fraud Unit Abuja.

His exploits in these offices have carved a niche for him as an exemplary, spectacular, and brilliant officer in crime-busting. His ardent loyalty and uncompromising behaviour in his duty have earned him a plethora of commendations, and his successes in the arrests of notorious armed robbers were highly appreciated.

DCP Ahmed, who is a Fellow of the Corporate Institute of Administration and Fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators (FIPMA), is the DC of the DFI-Intelligence Response Team in Abuja.

Since he assumed office, DCP Ahmed has become a thorn in the flesh of the criminals in the country. To the criminal elements, the fear of DCP Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed is the beginning of wisdom.

His team has arrested many kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition, many of which were displayed recently by the Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Just two days after the launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in Abuja by the Inspector General of Police, the IRT under DCP Ahmed has picked two gun runners and four suspected kidnappers who are terrorising the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring communities.

As of Saturday, 139 suspects have been arrested, while 154 kidnapped victims have been rescued in two weeks. Seventeen arms and 604 rounds of ammunition were recovered under the coordination of DCP Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed.

He has made the Nigeria Police Force proud of his exemplary behaviour, which has impacted the image of the police and society in general.
