World Press Freedom Day:Governor Inuwa Hails Gombe Journalists

….Pledges Continued Partnership with Media to Entrench Transparency, Accountability in Governance

As Journalists in Gombe State join their counterparts the world over to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, today 3rd May 2023, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has again charged the media practitioners to continue to uphold the ethics of their profession by promoting the ideals of democracy, justice, accountability, peace, and unity.

According to a press release on Wednesday, 3rd May 2023 signed by Director-General (Press Affairs) Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said that in a goodwill message, Governor Inuwa paid tribute to media practitioners in the state for their commitment to enlightening and sensitizing the citizenry on government policies and programmes as well as updating the general public on developments around the world through their reportage and editorial contents.

While referring to the theme of this year’s celebration, “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”, the Governor underscored the imperative of Journalists utilizing the enabling element of freedom of expression to enjoy and help protect all other human rights as watchdogs of the society and voice of the people.

In doing so, the Governor said, journalists must themselves always guard against fake news and misinformation as well as ensure accurate and balanced reportage of events and activities.

He assured to continue to work with the media as partners and critical allies in his determination to entrench transparency, accountability, and openness in governance in Gombe state.
