Zamfara Police Confront, Neutralize Terrorists, Rescue 15 Women, Six Children

Recover 20 Rustled Cows

The Zamfara State Police Command, today, October 28, 2022, engaged a terrorist group in a fierce gun duel before successfully rescuing 15 women and six children, abducted in two of its villages.

Also, 20 cows, said to have been rustled in the attack, were recovered.

The hoodlums, the Police said, invaded Buraji and Sabon Sara villages on motorbikes, shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, and seized the victims.

However, working on a distress call received at about 4:30 am, the Area Commander, Dutsinma, ACP Mohammad Makama, mobilized and led a team of Police tactical units to block the hoodlums’ exit routes at Gandun Sarki Village, during which a gun duel ensued.

The state Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, said in a press statement that, given the superior firepower of the operatives, “many terrorists were killed and some escaped the scene with gunshot wounds”.

“Tactical teams are still combing the area to recover their dead bodies and/or arrest the injured terrorists. The investigation is ongoing”, Gambo stressed.

In another achievement recorded by the command, a 25-year-old drug peddler, Ukashatu Idris, of Kiyaki Village in the Bungudu LGA of state, was, based on credible intelligence, arrested at about 5:30 pm on October 25, 2022, with 27bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect who, on interrogation, confessed to being en route to Zamfara State from Auchi in Edo State, was arrested by Police detectives attached to the Makera Divisional Headquarters in Funtua LGA.

The suspect, however, disclosed that he was not alone in the criminal act and mentioned one Kabiru Master of the Lalan area in Gusau town, Zamfara, as his accomplice.

Kabiru, the command said, has taken to his flight, adding that an investigation on the case was ongoing.

The command, also working on credible intelligence, embarked on sting operations of criminal hideouts on October 11, where it tracked and recovered four suspected stolen vehicles.
