The Integrity Youth Alliance, an alliance of over 70 CSOs and NGOs, has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited for inviting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe a report published in an online media platform that says the National Oil Company erred in paying billions in gratuities to the Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, and the Chief Financial Officer, Umar Ajiya.
In a statement on Thursday, April 27, 2023, signed by its Board Chair, Comrade Kehinde Adewole, the Alliance said the decision of the duo to invite the EFCC has once again proved that the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has come to equity with clean hands.
“Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited had clarified the misrepresentation by the publications based on the provisions of Section 59(3) of the Petroleum Industry Act, which nullified previous appointments after the successful transition of the defunct NNPC to the commercially driven National Energy Company, the NNPC Limited.
“Pursuant to the provisions of the Act, the appointment of the CEO and CFO of NNPC Limited by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is based on distinct terms and conditions of service, including tenure, employment benefits, and termination, Comrade Adewole said.
He further said that with Kyari’s new vision for the NNPC Limited, boldly anchored on the principles of Transparency, Accountability, Performance, and Excellence, he set sail.
“With the invitation extended to the EFCC by the duo, Nigerians remain optimistic that the NNPC Limited is indeed on the march to fulfill its glorious destiny as the biggest and most profitable national oil company in Africa.” Navigating with transparency is the way to go, the statement said.
