Hajiya Hajara Usman Alkali Baba Skill Centre Graduates 85, Empowers 32 In Rivers
The President of, the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Hajiya Hajara Usman Alkali Baba, was on the ground at the Skill Centre in PHC, Rivers State named after her, to graduate the 1st batch of eighty-five trainees who have over the course of four months acquired marketable skills in fashion design, catering, hair and wig making, and headgear styling/design from the centre established with the support of the Rivers State Government.
According to a press release signed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-koko, said that the graduates of the centre similarly received the necessary tools and other empowerment materials for the successful take-off of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) based on the skills they had acquired.
The POWA President commended His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief (Barrister) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for his support towards the construction of the POWA Skill Acquisition Centre in March 2022.
She said the training and empowerment programme is a National programme, and Rivers State is the first state in which the foundation was laid in 2022.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of POWA Rivers State, Engr. Egan Adat Okon-Effiong thanked the POWA National President for training Rivers POWA for independence and sustainability.
She further noted that the training started on January 16, 2023, and the graduands have demonstrated resilience, commitment, and dedication.
Engr. Egan Adat Okon-Effiong appreciated her husband, CP Okon Effiong Okon, for his wonderful support to see that this programme succeeds.
She also thanked the captains of industries, corporate organisations, and individuals who supported the training programme in one way or another.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Okon Effiong Okon was conferred with the POWA Ambassador title by the President of the Police Officers Wives Association, Hajiya Hajara Usman Alkali Baba, for his support of the POWA family in Rivers State.
The POWA President urged the graduands to bring the skills and experiences gathered during the programme to work in the job creation sector of the State, and the country at large.
