The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has embarked on working visit/ facility tour of National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) Corporate Headquarters, Abuja for an on the spot assessment of the activities of the commission.
The working visit is part of a move to ensure the commission meets with the performance target set by the Minister to provide Digital ID for all Nigerians in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a Digital Nigeria.
It will be recalled that last week, after receiving briefing from the commission, the Minister charged NIMC to ensure a 500% increase in the number of monthly Citizens’ Digital Identity Enrolments- up from the current 500,000 monthly enrolments to 2.5 million monthly enrolments.
It will also be recalled that on Monday, August 31, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the Transfer of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy
The transfer was part of an effort to ensure that synergy and effective ministry supervisory mechanism is put in place to coordinate, monitor and track the progress of the Federal Government’s digital transformation initiatives.
