The Benue State Commissioner of Police, George Chuku has ordered the deployment of police officers across the state in readiness for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
A statement on Thursday, 21st December 2023 signed by the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Anene Sewuese Catherine said that the CP directed this in a conference where all Area commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical commanders were in attendance.
The CP warned all officers to ensure the security of lives and property within their area of responsibility, ensure they secure all entry and exit routes, and carry out intensive motorized patrols of government facilities, churches, parks, and densely populated areas where people go to celebrate.
In addition, the CP warned against the sale and use of ‘Knockouts’ and ‘fireworks’ and hereby called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, guidance and parents to warn their children/ wards and faithful to refrain from such practices. Groups displaying masquerades are advised to be very careful so that they won’t infringe on other people’s rights.
