Prosperity Cup: Gallant NUJ FC Bows Out Of Bayelsa Governor’s Cup

….. De Grace FC Wins Big to Secure Quarter Final Place.

After two consecutive wins in the Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament christened the Prosperity Cup the Nigeria Union of Journalists Bayelsa State Council on Thursday bowed out of the competition with a 3-1 loss to Dream Academy School.

The NUJ Bayelsa team conceded the first goal in the tournament on 27 minutes from a gifted error by the goalkeeper having made a significant save on 26 minutes.

Despite dominating proceedings in the opening minutes,  Pere Ebiwari put the Academy side ahead on 27 minutes from a poor goalkeeping error that would have been averted.

On two occasions NUJ FC had the opportunity to restore parity but Victor Gbefa and Sunday Samuel’s shots at goal missed the target.

NUJ FC’s problems became worse just before halftime when captain John Angese suffered a hamstring injury to end his involvement in the competition.

Peremene Bright added another goal for Dream Academy FC in 48 minutes from a beautiful ppull-outbut NUJ FC did not relent in their search for goals despite trailing  2-0 down in a packed full game watched by the former Commissioner for Environmental and CEO of Ayilla Water Chief Robert Enogha Ayalla.

Akali Murphy 70 minute made it 3-0 ensuring that members of the fourth estate of the realm have difficulties in casting their catchy headlines. N UJ FC however got the consolation goal on 78 from Humphrey John’s header.

Earlier in the day De Grace FC delivered an annihilation job on their Yenagoa opponent by battering Biseni United 8-1 Solohit Foluwa scored a double brace for De Grace FC to see De Grace FC into the quarter-final of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle.

Hostilities will resume tomorrow in Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament, at the Amassoma Center Ayisco FC of Ogboibiri will tackle  Oporoma FC, Saturday will witness an eastern derby as Odioma United confronts Movers FC of Otuasega at the Nembe Center.
